Celebrating Excellence and Leadership: Highlights from the Opening Ceremony
Date: 05/09/2025
The opening ceremony on September 1st was successfully held. The school awarded scholarships to students who excelled in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) examinations, recognizing their hard work and dedication. This year, our school achieved remarkable results in the DSE: the pass rate for 15 subjects exceeded the average score in Hong Kong, three subjects had a higher percentage of students achieving 5* or 5** than the overall statistics, and two students attained outstanding scores of 31. Additionally, our undergraduate admission rate surpassed the citywide figure.
The inauguration of student leaders was also a part of the ceremony. The new leaders of the student union, disciplinary committee, and four houses solemnly pledged their oaths in front of the entire school community, receiving the "torch" from their predecessors and committing to lead by example in serving their peers.
Our principal drew upon ideas from the book Thinking, Fast and Slow in this opening speech, emphasizing the importance of thoughtful decision-making to prevent hasty judgments influenced by biases and stereotypes that could potentially harm others. He urged students to recognize that their conduct should not be dictated solely by legal standards, as the law merely establishes a baseline for ethical behavior. Instead, he encouraged them to aspire to be empathetic and grateful individuals.
At the end of the ceremony, the principal reaffirmed the educational philosophy that has long been a cornerstone of our school: fostering personal growth to develop the wisdom needed for effective interactions in diverse situations. As each student commits to self-improvement, both our campus and society can advance collectively toward becoming better versions of ourselves.
