Biology Department: Stepping into the Halls of University Biomedical Research
Date: 15/09/2026
During the summer break, seven of our Secondary 5 Biology students participated in Biomedical Sciences Summer Camps organized by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) and City University of Hong Kong (CityU). Under the expert guidance of university professors and researchers, our students stepped into the shoes of "scientists" to experience a rich, hands-on taste of university life and cutting-edge research routines!
Over the 5-day camps, students toured advanced research laboratories and human anatomy specimen museums, completed precision micro pipetting training, and conducted specialized experiments such as lysozyme crystallization and producing low-lactose milk using immobilized lactase.
The program was packed with practical, hands-on experiences—including taking part in daily diagnostic lab routines, preparing pathology tissue slides, and simulating viral detection using ELISA (Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay). Students even assembled electrical circuits to capture human electromyography (EMG) signals and utilized soft lithography to fabricate microfluidic chips (Lab-on-a-Chip Device)! These experiments, bridging medical technology and engineering, greatly sparked our students' passion for biomedical applications.
On the final day of the HKU camp during the final project presentations, the team featuring our class 5A student, *Yeung Tsz Mong Kish, was honored with the "Best Presentation Award"!
This university research journey has truly broadened our RCPHKMC students' horizons and helped them explore potential career pathways in life sciences. We hope everyone keeps this thirst for knowledge alive and continues to press forward bravely on the path of scientific discovery!
